MCP Final Explanation

My Discovery Essay was about The effects of social media on the adolescent mind, at first I wanted to create a poster but I soon realized my photoshop skills and drawing skills are not very good so I decided I was going to create a short story and a suicide note. I did not want them to correlate; I wanted it to be two completely different people. In my short story I write about an Italian American high school student named Gianna Soprano she is a freshman at Beacon High School and she aspires to be a fashion designer and/or model, She is living the normal teenage life when suddenly just like most of us real life teens she becomes addicted to instagram. That addiction led to her becoming uncomfortable in her own skin and discouraging her from becoming a model. I did not want to have the suicide note correlate with this short story because I wanted her to have a happy ending so that when someone reads this short story they have some hope that even though they are struggling with confidence they will be alright.

In my suicde note I wrote about a girl named Izzy who is trying to reassure her family and friends that they were not at fault with her suicide. I chose to write a suicide note because I want to show what the effects of social media can have on a person. It’s so much on the mind that at some point you just give up, I hope that no one has to get to this point which is why I use the suicide note kind of like a scare tactic to shock people and have them, rethink their life choices. I don’t think social media should be deactivated from your life but it shouldn’t dictate who you are and how you live.
